Neytiri Fan 32 Report post Posted May 20, 2010 Wasn't Norm Spellman was shot to death in one of the battle scenes? Or have I mistaken him for someone else? I noticed he was standing guard at the end scene when the "aliens went to their dying planet."

cmb 86 Report post Posted May 20, 2010 Norm's avatar was shot and killed. However his *real* (human) body still exists and is fine. At the end it shows Norm in his human form when the RDA walk onto their ship. Edit - Oops Spartan posted first
Robert 13 Report post Posted May 20, 2010 Shadow and Spartan are correct. He is in his human form at the end. I doubt Norm will be in an Avatar again due to the high price it cost to build them. (Especially without the RDA "bringing in the money" now)
Enkrptic-Na'vi 25 Report post Posted May 21, 2010 Indeed he is standing next to Dr. Max Patel at the end of the movie as they watch the humans leave. However, I've taken a look at the scene where Norm's Avatar is shot several times and noticed he gets hit in the left shoulder, probably twice. When Norm comes out of the chamber he's grasping his left shoulder. A hit to the left shoulder isn't necessarily a fatal shot for a human and especially not for a Na'vi when you consider their impressive stamina. So if his Avatar didn't get fried by a human weapon or trampled by one of the wildlife during their charge, it's possible his Avatar survived. After all the humans presumably have the technology to heal (aka repair) their Avatars if they are injured. It's just a thought. Personally, I really liked the character, so I hope Norm's Avatar survived so we might get to see him in future Avatar installments. Aketuan (Ken)

(Especially without the RDA "bringing in the money" now) I'm sure he WILL be in it again because he's a regular now and it's the movie industries... anything can happen! But hey -- I see Yusef from Inception! Hehe.
Human No More 0 Report post Posted September 16, 2010 His avatar isn't necessarily dead - there's a reason he grabbed a rifle and ran out to save it He only got hit in the shoulder, stop thinking in TV terms - especially with carbon fibre bones and 22nd century medical technology. http://tvtropes.org/...tantDeathBullet It is important to bear in mind that it is frequently easy to see this trope where it may not be intended. Audiences have a tendency to presume that when someone in a film or TV show is shot and they fall down and are seen lying still for one second before the camera cuts away, never to come back to them again, they are dead—but this is only a presumption. I'd guess he's standing there in an exopack because his avatar is still injured and he either can't link with it yet, and/or still wouldn't be able to do anything if he did. Icu 1 Report post Posted September 16, 2010 I'd be fine with Norm's Avatar being alive it's just..... JC can't bring EVERYONE back to life. There was the rumor about Quaritch and it seems as though Augustine is pretty much confirmed to be back. Bringing back lots of people from the dead is a good way to make people take the sequel less seriously.
Dreaming Of Pandora 2 Report post Posted September 16, 2010 His Avatar is dead, but his human body is still alive. I think you see him when the humans are leaving pandora This ^ I'd be fine with Norm's Avatar being alive it's just..... JC can't bring EVERYONE back to life. There was the rumor about Quaritch and it seems as though Augustine is pretty much confirmed to be back. Bringing back lots of people from the dead is a good way to make people take the sequel less seriously. It's very unlikely Stephen Lang will play a crucial role in the sequel, or any role at all. Sigourney will be back for logical reasons - "She is with Eywa now" - Mo'at Quaritch is tougher to bring back because we actually saw him die and there was no "clue" to a return in the sequel. Who knows, bringing him back could be risky for the people who just like Avatar. I personally wouldn't mind bringing him back by any means. I love that SOB! Human No More 0 Report post Posted September 20, 2010 Quaritch is the ONE character I say definitely won't (and shouldn't) come back... even Trudy has a better case for coming back, and that isn't much of one.
BlueMagnolia 0 Report post Posted December 17, 2011 Norm's Avatar was hit in the shoulder, and that seemed to throw him out of the link. but you see him later, in human form, gun in hand, going back into the battle, but you never see his Avatar again....what happened to it? and you see Norm in the gauntlet, gun still in hand, watching the Sky People being escorted onto the shuttle. Wasn't Norm Spellman was shot to death in one of the battle scenes? Or have I mistaken him for someone else? I noticed he was standing guard at the end scene when the "aliens went to their dying planet."

mikyunyu 0 Report post Posted August 20, 2013 It isn't certain whether Norm's avatar is dead or alive. Only James Cameron knows for sure! Maybe it's best to talk not of being 'alive', but of being 'inhabited'. The avatar body is just an empty shell until it has been linked with its human. In an unused alternative scene, Norm's avatar is shot to smithereens by Wainfleet who then says "Now that didn't hurt." And when we cut to Norm he is in extreme pain, clutching his stomach area, where Wainfleet had pumped all the bullets. It's one of those tiny continuity hiccups that happens when bits get cut out. But by now, I reckon everyone's figured that out, right?
